Achieving Ultra-Niche Appeal
I am reluctant to share what I write because I’m afraid of getting thrown into the sea or being made fun of or even worse: completely ignored.
Recently, I shared my writings with a handful of people. Of those, the reactions were over-whelmingly neutral. Most people didn’t say anything after reading my writing, while the few who did said things like:
- “you sound anachronistic”
- “were you feeling sad and lonely when you wrote this?”
- “all of your writings are trolls”
- “you are going to get cancelled”
- “your writing sounds like a school shooter’s manifesto”
However! I found one true fan, someone who seemingly understands me. And this has made it all worth it1. I’ve become re-invigorated. So now I’m upgrading my writer status from “No Appeal” to “Ultra Niche Appeal”.23
Notes
-
How pathetic am I that I cling to the smallest scraps of admiration?
-
Ultra Niche Appeal is my way of saying that one person aside from myself liked it
-
I could argue that Ultra Niche Appeal is better than Mass Appeal, but I’ll spare my lone reader that self-serving logic and enjoy this small victory
